Today, January 28, is international Data Privacy Day. Happy Data Privacy Day!
The idea of this “celebration” is to promote discussion and thought about privacy considerations around data – both data about you, and data that you might have gathered as part of your research.
A number of organisations will be promoting safe use of your data online today, such as the office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, Educause and the American National Cyber Security Alliance.
You can now install the latest patch for Mathematica – 10.3.1 – on your desktop computer. Please consider installing this patch.

People across campus have been using OriginLab’s Origin and OriginPro software for publication quality graphs for a long time. Unfortunately, some of the installs of Origin are quite old. ICT can now provide access to current versions this software to campus researchers. Continue reading
During the September “patch night” (Sept. 9) when all of the campus machines are shut down to receive their security and performance patches, the Datashare storage system will be changed to a virtual computer. This will not change the access for the system, but will make the system more effective. The datashare service will be unavailable during the period of 10:00 PM September 9 to 2:00 AM September 10.

The REDCap service for surveys and data gathering has been updated to version 6.7. This offers a number of features that might be of interest to REDCap users, and is a large update beyond the 6.4 version it replaces. Due to a planned power outage in one of ICT’s server rooms, Datashare will not be available on Saturday, June 27. The outage is expected to last all day.
Please save any documents you have open on datashare before leaving on Friday, June 26, and close the application that had those open.
