A recent decision by the European Union to allow the importation and sale of sealskins after a six year ban is giving hope to some Nunavut hunters. But Gil Thériault, the director of the Magdalen Island Seal Hunters Association, says it would take decades to reconquer European markets and that Asian demand is strong.

A First Nations man is calling for a meeting with Scott Bullerwell, lead pastor at Immanuel Pentecostal Church in Winnipeg after it was discovered that a smudging ceremony would not be allowed to take place during a benefit concert. Bullerwell said, “…there’s little affinity between native spirituality and Christianity.”

The court case involving a member of the Thunderchild First Nation, accused of violating a court order to not intrude on to land where seismic work was taking place, will be back in court on November 15th. The accused lawyer requested more time to prepare his case which will include arguing that the constitutional right to religious freedom was violated by the arrest.
