Chief Has Faith in FSIN Process

Chief Barry Kennedy of the Carry the Kettle First Nation recently commented on the situation surrounding the findings of a appeals tribunal that ruled that the October 25th, 2012 election of Kimberly Jonathan to the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations (FSIN) position of First Vice Chief was null and void. Following the tribunal’s decision FSIN Grand Chief Perry Bellegarde said, “We accept and respect the rulings by the Appeal Tribunal. We will continue to be transparent and accountable as we follow our processes.” The FSIN has ignored the ruling of the appeals tribunal.

Elijah Harper Dies

Elijah Harper, a former Manitoba MLA and MP who was a key player in defeating the Meech Lake accord, has died at the age of 64. Harper’s national recognition stems from his refusal to support the Meech Lake Accord in 1990 due to the fact that the accord was negotiated without the input of Canada’s Aboriginal peoples.
