Research Confirms At Least 3,000 Died At Residential Schools

Researchers, who have only partially searched residential school records, have confirmed that at least 3,000 children died while attending Canada’s Indian residential schools. Most deaths were from disease, with drownings, fire, suicide as other factors. The Department of Indian Affairs documented deaths in their annual reports consistently until 1917 when the practice was suspended.
