The University of Saskatchewan Library is inviting people to attend the exhibition celebration of, Knowledge Keepers: Authorship – Artistry – Archives on Wednesday October 3, 2012 in “The Link” First Floor, Murray Library. The event takes place from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM with a short program at 3:30 PM.
The Honourable John Duncan, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development and Member of Parliament for Vancouver Island North, recently announced an investment of over $99,000 from the Skills Link program. The funding from Skills Link, which is part of the Government of Canada’s Youth Employment Strategy (YES) will assist the Heiltsuk Social Development Office in Bella Bella, British Columbia to enable aboriginal youth to overcome barriers to employment.
The deadline for submitting an application for former residential student’s abuse claims is this Friday September 21st, 2012. More than 25,000 claims are expected to be granted across Canada.

The University of British Columbia (UBC) Law School will be the first Canadian university to require a course on aboriginal legal issues. This is in response to the National Federation of Law Societies statement which said that core competencies include aboriginal and treaty rights.
The Canadian Bar Association is offering a live web conference, “Business Transactions With First Nations – Part I: Important Things You Need To Know” on Thursday September 27th, 2012 from 12:00-13:30 Eastern Daylight Time. This course will focus on legal and regulatory framework regarding business transactions with First Nations.

The 2012 4th Annual Biindigaate Indigenous Film Festival will be taking place September 27th-30th, 2012 at the Paramount Theatre, 24 Court Street South, Thunder Bay, Ontario. The festival aims are to celebrate indigenous films and filmmakers.
Demeter Press has issued a Call for Papers and is seeking submissions for an edited collection entitled, Indigenous Mothering, Family and Community: International Perspectives. Editors Dr. D. Memee Lavell-Harvard and Dr. Kim Anderson will be accepting abstracts until January 7th, 2013.
Earlier this summer His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, unveiled the Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s (RCMP) Aboriginal Policing Services Ensign and badge. The RCMP’s provincial and territorial Aboriginal Policing Services units will display the new Ensign flag where appropriate.
Organizers were scrambling to accommodate greater than expected numbers of people that arrived to vote for the Métis Nation of Saskatchewan (MNS) elections this past weekend. Additional ballots had to be acquired from the Saskatoon office.
