Skip Generation Families On The Rise

Census 2011 figures released recently showed over 30,000 children in Canada live in, “skip-generation” households which contain grandparents looking after grandchildren for a variety of reasons. One of the factors behind the growth of skip-generation families in aboriginal communities has been a thrust of child welfare agencies to connect aboriginal children with their grandparents.
