INARCH participates in the 6th Third Pole Environment Workshop

INARCH was well represented at the 6th Third Pole Environment Workshop, held at Ohio State University in Columbus, USA, from the 16th to the 18th of May, 2016.

  • Dr Anil Mishra of UNESCO-IHP gave an opening address, mentioning INARCH and IHP. IHP was a major sponsor of the workshop.
  • Dr Joseph Shea, Dr Walter Immerzeel, Dr Maxime Litt and colleagues from ICIMOD gave important scientific talks at the workshop.
  • Dr Peter van Oevelen of GEWEX gave a talk on how TPE might link to GEWEX and WCRP.
  • Dr John Pomeroy presented on INARCH to the TPE group, strengthening links to this important initiative.

WMO Opportunity: Global Cryosphere Watch Project Manager

A new two-year position has been created at WMO (in Geneva) as Project Manager of Global Cryosphere Watch (GCW).

The Project Manager should have experience in Polar, high mountain and/or cryospheric observations, research and services, in managing observing networks and systems, including data management, design and evolution of observing systems, measurement technology, the development of the best/standard observing practices, and development of user-required products.

AMS Mountain Meteorology Conference: Call for Papers

Ethan Gutmann (US National Center for Atmospheric Research) has circulated details of the AMS Mountain Meteorology conference to be held in Burlington, Vermont, USA in June 2016.

This conference provides opportunities for cross pollination between the atmospheric and hydrologic sciences with an alpine focus,  and includes a section dedicated to mountain climate and hydrology.
